Lacking the knowledge and technical abilities required in the digital world shouldn't even hold you down. It doesn't matter if you can hardly put a couple of creative sentences together.

See, I know you are doubtful.

You don't know where to start from, not even how to. Maybe you are still battling that feeling of not being good enough. Of course, no one wants to set themselves up for failure.

But Listen:

The journey to failure begins with self-Doubts. When you lack confidence in your own abilities to succeed, that freaking enemy, failure begins to creep in.

To burst your brains, Nobody started  blogging having full conversance, perception and general erudition of the digital market. Every successful blogger you see or hear of today, all started from scratch. Everyone started by acquainting themselves while indulging in constant study and grew to whatever it is they have become today. It is a learning curve. The more you learn, the bigger you grow.

You don't have to wait until you amass an ocean of knowledge before you can start and scale a blog.  This guide will show you how to begin

Why Start a Blog?

Hey Dreamer, You don't just wake up one beautiful morning and decide you want to open a blog! Yes there should be a drive force. Some sort of inspiration. A motivating factor. Something that pushes you to want to join this highly competitive market.
I mean, Why are you starting a blog in the first place?
For me, It was my passion for writing. I had this flare for it. I wanted a voice for myself. A voice that could speak to millions of people, educate and impact on lives.
This is what inspires a Civil Engineer to rise every beautiful morning, pick up his pen and write.

JEFF BULLAS, A famous blogger also gave his reason:
Blogging helped me make some noise and leave a little dent on this universe.
According to him,
Blogging is a platform for self development. It drives you to:
  • Learn by doing
  • Document your knowledge
  • Embrace a life discipline
  • Network and connect with a global audience
It won’t happen overnight, but all of this is within your reach if you just start.
The sooner you find your "why", the better.

What to Blog About

As soon as you discover why you are starting a blog, The next question to ask yourself is 'What should you be blogging about?'. Those two factors are aligned. They keep you going when things are a little difficult.

What are you passionate about? I mean what gives you goosebumps each time you pick up a pen? What topics can you write about with ease?

Whatever topic you decide to blog about must be one you have developed an ardent feeling for. It is going to reflect in your writing. And if your writing cannot resonate with your audience, you are wasting your time. It is the emotions created by your writing that bonds them to you.

How can they develop that feeling if you as a writer isn't enthusiastic about what you write?
Passion is a fundamental part of blogging that keeps you going when things get difficult.

Trust me, Sometimes in your journey,  things would get really hard.If you don't love what you do, or the topic you write about, then its going to be difficult to survive those moments

This is where you need a mission statement. Each time you check it,  your passion is reignited especially when you're about to fall off the wheels. It puts you right back on track
So what are you passionate about

Maybe you love to give Health and fitness related advice. Or you are a fashionista who has compelling rage for fashion.

What if you are a politically oriented person who always let out his opinion.? Better still, could you be someone who loves to review technological products, or talk about money making avenues?

These are Topics you could pick up as a niche for your blog.

Deciding on the topic will help you discover who your targeted audience are. Be aware that the success of your blog solely depends on how well you connect with these people.

If you want to be relevant in your Niche, try as much as you can to not only connect with your tribe. Make sure your blog becomes a platform for this individuals to find a long lasting solution to whatever their problems are

How To Create Your Blog

How do you do that?

First, It has to be descriptive so as to enable potential readers instantly tell what your blog is about even before they visit. Whatever niche your blog is based on, tactfully incorporate it in your domain name.

For example, searchengineland.com is obviously a search engine focused blog. Readers can easily picture what to expect when they visit.

However, this is not a rule as I have have seen the success of personally branded blogs like Neilpatel.com, and Jeffbullas.com branded after the names of their respective owners. You can use your name and still be successful.

Secondly, I'd advice you go for a .com Extension as a lot of people are already used to it. But you could also go for a .net or .org extension. They'll work great as well.

How to Promote your blog

Creating a well-designed blog and writing great content is just the start. I mean, of what good is a great blog if no one is reading?

In order to get readers for your blog you will need spend some time promoting it, especially when you first start.

One of my favorite ways to get readers to my blog is to post links on my social media accounts like Facebook and Twitter. This is great, because not only do your friends see the link, if they reshare the link with their friends it automatically multiplies your readers.
If you have created high-quality content on your blog then social media is a great way for your blog to go viral.

In addition to getting new readers to your blog, you will also want to make sure your current readers are coming back. This is where email marketing plays a big role. By collecting the email addresses of your visitors (with their permission of course), you can then notify them when you post something new on your blog. This keeps people coming back to your blog, which not only gives you more readers over time, it also allows you to build a closer relationship with your readers.

Making money from your blog

Once you have put in the effort of creating great blog content and promoting your blog, making money from your blog is actually the easy part.

There are several ways you can make money blogging, from selling your own products or services, to getting paid to write reviews of products on your blog. But the easiest way to make money from your blog is to sell advertising space.

Once you have a popular blog, advertisers will be hounding you for the opportunity to advertise. The best way to take advantage of this situation is to use Google Adsense. They find the advertisers for you and all you have to do is place the Google Adsense code on your blog to start running ads. Google Adsense takes all of the hard work out of the process and just cuts you a check.

Another good way to make money from your blog is Affiliate Marketing

What is Affiliate marketing and How does it work?

Everyone wants to get out of the rat race and gain financial freedom. When you go online, you come across internet marketers especially on YouTube teaching you various techniques to make money while you sleep

Passive income is the dream.

And yes, It is possible!

One of the foremost ways to earn it online is through affiliate marketing.

What is Affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a referral based marketing system that involves the recommendation of products by a marketer in exchange for commissions from the sales of such products.
In other words, you can make money by promoting other people's products

How Affiliate Marketing Works

how affiliate marketing works

A marketer finds a product he likes, promotes it and earns a commission (a share of profit) from the sale of such product.

According to acceleration partners,
  1. Affiliate partner promotes a brand’s products or services on their site.
  2. Consumer clicks on brand’s promotion on the affiliate’s site and a cookie is then stored on the consumer’s browser; cookies are what make it possible for the affiliate network to track the consumer’s progress from the affiliate’s website through to the brand’s shopping cart.
  3. Consumer is redirected to brand’s website.
  4. Consumer purchases a product/service from the brand.
  5. The network then automatically pays out a commission to the affiliate (based on the rules set by the brand) for driving that sale.

There are basically four parties involved in a typical affiliate marketing system
They include:
  1. The Merchant
  2. The Affiliate Network
  3. The Publisher or Affiliate Marketer
  4. The Consumer

The Merchant:

This refers to the product creator. They don't necessarily have to be the manufacturer of the product. The merchant only needs to have a product to sell

The Merchant could be a manufacturer, retailer, vendor or brand. For Example, Jumia is a merchant and of course, they obviously don't manufacture products. Yet, they have enough products for affiliates to promote

Moreover, The merchant doesn't have to be a big brand like Jumia or Amazon. Even Solo entrepreneurs who produce e-books and other digital products can fall into the merchant category. All that is required to be a merchant is have something to sell

Affiliate Networks:

These are middlemen that serve as intermediaries between affiliate marketers and the merchants
Although some merchants create and handle affiliate programs themselves, it is much easier to leave all that for affiliate networks to handle

Affiliate Networks Usually have a lot of products among which a marketer or publisher can choose to promote. This way, a publisher isn't limited to just one product. Examples of really nice affiliate networks include ShareAsale, ClickBank, Commission Junction etc

Publisher Or Marketer:

Affiliate marketers are promoters who attract customers through various means and convince them to make a purchase decision or take specific actions on a merchant's website.

When an affiliate marketer tactically gives a consume, good reasons as to how a particular product solves problems and add values, conversion is expected.

Most bloggers, Influencers and brands fall into this category

Consumer

The audience that an affiliate marketer look to influence to make a purchase, submit a lead form, sign up for a newsletter, test out a service, become a new customer, etc.

Consumers are usually the main target for an affiliate marketing cycle to be complete. And of course, it has to end with a purchase

How Do Affiliate Marketers Get Paid?

There are different ways and payment options for affiliates. they include:

PPC (Pay Per Click)

You make money based on the number of users you send to the advertisers website through your link

(PPL) Pay Per Lead

You get a commission when a user follows your link to an advertiser’s website and completes a particular action which could be filling a form, signing up for a trial of a product, subscribing to a newsletter, downloading a software, or submitting contact details.

(PPS) Pay Per Sale

This is the most commonly used payment structure. You’ll get your commission from a merchant when a user makes a purchases as a result of your marketing strategies

Advantages of Affiliate Marketing

You can work from Home

For those who hate going to the office, affiliate marketing allows you the pleasure of working from home. All you need is your computer and internet connect. This is a job you can do without ever getting out of your pajamas.

You earn passive income

While any “regular” job requires you to be at work to make money, affiliate marketing offers you the ability to make money while you sleep. By investing an initial amount of time into a campaign, you will see continuous returns on that time as consumers purchase the product over the following days and weeks. You receive money for your work long after you’ve finished it. Even when you’re not in front of your computer, your marketing skills will be earning you a steady flow of income.

It is Cost-effective

Unlike most businesses that require huge amount of startup fees, affiliate marketing can be started at low cost, meaning you can get started quickly and without much hassle. There are no affiliate program fees to worry about and no need to create a product.

Conclusion

Affiliate marketing is perfect for those looking to gain control of their own income by focusing on performance-based revenue options. An affiliate marketer can also achieve passive income without worrying about producing their own product or service.

Although the success of your business depends on your skills, affiliate marketing is an effective way to make money online full-time or part-time.

5 Simple ways to make money on Instagram (even if you don't have 10k followers)

Instagram, having gathered more than 1 billion monthly users has become one of the favorite social network to reach people. Many brands are leveraging this opportunity to create brand awareness and achieve other marketing goals

Even some individuals who have succeeded in gathering a large number of followers have been smiling at the banks as they are regularly chased by big brands and companies.

Influencer marketing has no doubt been a great deal in the digital marketing world same way word of mouth is; in traditional marketing

But this opportunity to make money on Instagram has been limited to only people who have made their ground and gathered a large number of followers on the social network.

It is especially a challenge if you don't have at least 10,000 followers already, which is believed to be a milestone that suddenly opens the door to being approached by brands.

Apart from brands approaching you at this point, Instagram also allows you the much coveted "Swip-Up" feature on your stories. That feature alone converts a whooping 12-25% per story. No wonder brands come after you at this stage

If you fall into the category of people who have been sidelined or still trying to figure how to make money on Instagram due to few follower counts, here is the good news:
You can make money on Instagram even if you have fewer than 10,000 followers!

How?

To begin...

Choose a Niche:

If you really want to make money on Instagram, You need to have a personal brand that is built around a theme or topic of interest. This is referred to as a niche.

Focusing on this niche or chosen topic will create some sought of connection between you and other people who also interested in such topic.

Build Relationships and Engagement

The major reason why Brands target people with large number of followers is because of the influence they have on their audience. Their large audience make it easy for them to gather more likes and comments.

So the number one thing to focus on in this journey to Instagram marketing is building relationships with the people in your niche and Keeping your audience engaged

How can you do this?

Create Interesting, engaging contents that is related to your tribe (my personal word for people who share the same interest with you). Contents they can vibe along with. And be consistent in doing this
Don't forget to cement your relationships with your tribe by engaging with their contents too. Like their photos, comment on their posts and reply to their stories.

This way, they are moved to return the gesture by showing you more love and engagements.
Now Lets move to the real deal

How to make money on Instagram with less than 10k followers

Although you only have access to few tools that can help you monetize If you have not reached the 10,000 follower benchmark on Instagram, there are still other ways you can go around making money

1. Make money on Instagram from Sponsored Posts

Sponsored posts are very common ways Influencers make money. They get paid by brands to create posts or stories that talk about their brands or advertise their products.

To be able to monetize through sponsored Posts, you need to have gained a strong online presence, engagement and most of all, trust from your followers.

How can you get brands to sponsor you when you don't have much followers?

Its simple.

Followership is just one out of the reasons brands sponsor Influencers. They also look at your online presence, relationship with your followers and engagement rate. Since at this stage you already have that, It is likely that brands will approach you first even with under 10,000 followers.

There are many smaller companies interested in starting influencer marketing on IG. Some of them cannot afford bigger Influencers, So they usually start out by reaching out to individual accounts with smaller following but impressive engagement rates

2. Make money on instagram by Becoming an Affiliate

Unlike influencers whose primary aim is to grow brand awareness, an affiliate's focus is to get people to click on links and make a purchase. This is the only way they get commissions from sales. I explained more on this in my guide on affiliate marketing

You can become an affiliate for different brands by promoting their products and receiving commission on what you sell. This can be done with the use of promo codes or by creating engaging posts that captures your audience's attention and letting them know they can find the product link on your bio

Usually, you wont get huge commissions because only smaller companies would accept you as an affiliate because of your follower count. But once you work with many affiliates, you can always build your way up the ladder and eventually go for bigger companies that are willing to share higher percentages with you

3. Make money on Instagram by Drop-shipping of Products

Dropshipping is a business model where you can sell products online without any need to hold inventory, storage, packing or shipping of Items.
All you need do is to receive an order from a customer at your own set price, remove your profit and send the the product's order to the supplier. They will deliver the product at the doorstep of the customer

Because dropshipping has less to no risk, many marketers prefer to use Instagram as their main marketing channel. They just make sure their audience know how to order for the products

4. Make money on Instagram by Selling your own products

Selling of products is another way to make money on Instagram without you needing to have as many as 10,000 followers.

If you  own an eCommerce store, you can leverage Instagram to market your products. You or someone else can take attractive pictures showcasing the products.

For example, if you sell clothes or shoes, you can get a model to wear them and take pictures with a nice background that makes the product stand out.

Make sure you have a good camera. Instagram users are known to love good quality images and wouldn't even look twice at your feed if they contain poor low-quality photos or videos. Besides, a bad quality image can mean a low quality product too

Don't forget to post your products on your stories. Stories are a great way to get creative and get people engaged with your content. You can include stickers like polls, locations and even countdowns to create in the the fear of missing out on great offers

Since you don't have the "Swipe up" feature on your stories yet, you can include stickers that say things like "tap here" which will bring users directly to your post. Dont for get to use "link in bio" to urge your audience to visit your profile and click on your website link

5. Make Money from Instagram by Selling Services

Instagram is a good way to reach out to people and attract prospective clients. There are countless number of accounts who make money on Instagram by selling services like Photographic sessions, make up sessions, tattoos, personal training, hair styling and so on

Put yourself in front of customers by finding influencers with massive following and businesses in your niche and geographical area. Follow many of their followers. Some or most of them might likely follow back.

It is possible that they may see your post and book an appointment with you especially if you or a better or cheaper service

Conclusion

Those are easy ways to make money from Instagram even if your followers don't number into 10,000. Whichever aspect you choose to follow, don't forget to keep your personal brand in mind and treat what you do as a business.

The more confident you are in what you offer, the stronger your message will be to your target audience which will in turn endear them to your content leading to more engagement.
